Description

-The epitome of Italian grand touring  -Bodied by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan  -Fresh restoration in extremely attractive original color combo    Chassis #: AR*10204*102180*  Engine #: AR*00204*03337*    The Alfa Romeo 2000, known to as the "cast iron block two-liter," was introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1957 in Saloon form as the successor to the outgoing 1900. The 2000 entered production for the 1958 model year offered as either a "Berlina" sedan or the Touring-bodied Spider as offered here. A Coupe version became available in 1960.    The Spider, produced from 1958 to 1961, was Alfa Romeo's flagship open touring car, offering a more luxurious and refined package than the smaller 1,300-cc Giulietta Spider. The 2000 was a true open GT car, capable of a comfortable 100+mph long-distance cruising speed. Fewer than 3,500 of these Spiders were produced over approximately four years.    This example sports a fresh, high quality restoration in its unique and extremely attractive color combination of Anthracite Grey over Tan interior. It comes with a rare full set of tools, original bumper guards, owner's manual, brand new black soft top and is ready for the next caring owner to hit the open road in style.      We also have a Alfa Romeo Classiche Certificate of Origin stating the car was sold new in the U.S. and is finished in its original paint color.  Unfortunatley, Alfa Romeo apparently didn't keep records pertaining to 'matching numbers' chassis and engine info, however, the chassis and engine numbers both belong to the limited range of production numbers for a late 1961 example as shown on page 840 of Alfa Romeo historian Luigi Fusi's book "Tutte le Vetture dal 1910" (All cars from 1910) regarding production numbers, and we believe the engine to be original to the car.    Ownership history:    1962-1978: unknown  1979-1986: Stephen S. drove the car from California to his second home in Anchorage, AK where he registered it, then drove back to his home in Orcutt, CA later that year where it was stored until 1986.  1986-2012: Jim A. of Nipomo, CA purchased the car and began restoration.  2012-2018: Barry F. of San Luis Obispo, CA bought it and finished restoration.    Note: The last two photos show Audrey Hepburn and first husband Mel Ferrer touring a 1961 2000 Spider (not our car) around Rome's E.U.R. District. Photo credit: Reporters Associati
