Classic & Sports Car – Ayrton Senna’s Honda NSX is for sale

Ayrton Senna’s Honda NSX is for sale. Yes, you read that right.

If you’re in the market for a Formula One-inspired road car then you’ve plenty of choice: Renault Clio Williams, Fiat Seicento Michael Schumacher Sporting, Lotus Essex Turbo Esprit…

But how about taking that further with a classic car that was owned not only by an F1 driver, but by a triple F1 drivers’ champion and one of the greatest racers of all time?

Senna died almost exactly 30 years ago.

This 1991 NA1-generation Honda NSX was kept by Senna at his house in Portugal, where he was photographed washing it.

Registered SX-25-59, it’s now for sale for a cool £500,000 on Auto Trader.

It was featured in the 1992 film Racing is in my Blood, a documentary released after Senna’s third and final F1 World Championship victory.

In 2019, the Honda NSX was at the Imola circuit for an event that celebrated the Brazilian racer’s life, where it was driven by former F1 team owner Giancarlo Minardi.

The internet is awash with rumours about how much input Senna had in developing Honda’s mid-engined supercar.

Either way, he was clearly a fan of the 271bhp NSX.

Senna owned three Honda NSXs in total: this car, plus two black examples (one that was kept in Brazil and another bought for him by his friend and manager Antonio Braga).

The car for sale, SX-25-59, has covered just 39,100 miles.

This 1991 Honda NSX’s current owner, Robert McFagan, bought the car in 2013. Since then, it’s been kept at his home in East Sussex, UK.

“Senna’s red NSX was given to him by Honda who he had a commercial partnership with,” he explains.

“It’s been a real pleasure owning what is one of the most famous cars belonging to a true sporting legend and the thrill of driving Senna’s car never goes away.”
