Austin-Healey legends to be reunited at NEC show

| 3 Nov 2014

The Austin-Healey Club has announced plans to gather a number of historic cars at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show from 14-16 November.

Organisers of the club's stand have tracked down the three works entrants that competed in the 1964 Liege Rally, which was won by an Austin-Healey 3000. It was the final year of the event, and the assembled trio will commemorate the golden jubilee of the victory – one of the manufacturer's greatest motor sport successes.

The 1964 event was dominated by Rauno Altonen and Tony Ambrose, who won the rally outright by nearly 30 minutes from the Saab of Erik Carlsson. The pair made amends for the 1963 rally, in which they lost the lead after crashing on the Vivione Pass.

The club hopes that former members of the BMC Competition Department will join its members at midday on 14 November to celebrate the Austin-Healey 3000's triumph in one of the world's finest classic road rallies.

While the Austin-Healey Club has chosen to remember competition success, the majority of displays are expected to adhere more closely to the official theme, which this year is 'The Big Screen'.
