The Federation of British and Historic Vehicle Clubs’ national Drive-It Day kicked off the motoring season for many on 26 April, with specialist insurer Hagerty International marking the occasion with a classic car tour of Northamptonshire. In total, it raised more than £2500 for charity.
More than 100 classics turned out for the event, which took participants on a winding 72-mile tour of the Northamptonshire countryside, including visits to Towcester Racecourse, Edgcote Battle Ground and the Cotswolds before arriving at the final destination: Bicester Heritage.
Among the cars taking part on the rally was an original Ford GT40, an Aston Martin DB4 and a DB5, plus a small selection of vintage Rileys.
“We are thrilled with the level of interest in this year’s event, with the entry list becoming s a who’s who of popular classics,” said Hagerty’s Angus Forsythe. “This shows fantastic support for local organisations that rely on donations to keep up their excellent work in the community. We are passionate about supporting local causes and engaging enthusiasts, and through this event we are able to do both.”
The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and the Towcester Food Bank were the beneficiaries of this year’s event.
