The world-renowned Dunsfold Collection has launched a campaign to secure a permanent museum for its collection of Land-Rovers after having achieved charitable status earlier this year.
The collection was started in 1968 by Brian Bashall and focused predominantly on prototype and pre-production Land-Rovers. Through his dedication, which was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Transport Trust in 2003, many significant vehicles were saved from destruction.
In addition to pre-production Land-Rovers, the hoard contains examples of nearly every model created by the company from 1948 to the present day, including military vehicles, record-breakers, Royal cars and limited edition models.
There are currently more than 130 Land-Rover and Range Rover rarities housed at the facility but, due to storage limitations they are only available for the public to see at the biennial Open Weekend.
The trustees of the Dunsfold Collection are now raising money to find a permanent home not just for the vehicles, but also for 2000-plus models as well as reams of marketing material and handbooks.
