A Ford GT40-only race is to take place at the Goodwood Revival next year.
The event's Whitsun Trophy will celebrate 50 years since the genesis of the GT40 programme despite no cars actually being built until 1964.
Goodwood reckons the facts that it was 1963 when Henry Ford II – smarting after his takeover bids were spurned by Enzo Ferrari – decided to take on Il Commendatore on the race track, and that Eric Broadley's Lola Mk6 GT that the GT40 was based on first raced in 1963 are reason enough to celebrate.
