AUSTIN ALLEGRO 1500/1750

2-door saloon, 4-door 4-seater saloon, 2-door estate.

Allegro as above, but with E-Series Maxi engines and more plush trim. No two-door models after first year, and 1500 automatic dropped at end of seventies. Estate car came only with 1500 engine, and all 1750s were nominally sports saloons - 1750 Sport/Sport Specials at first became 1750HL/1750 Sport TC thereafter, with twin carbs, more power. Like all Allegros, 'Mk II' model arrived for 1976, 'Mk III' for 1980, but only with cosmetic changes - there were no mechanical or styling improvements. 100mph/27mpg for 1750HL models made them brisk, but not charismatic, and reliability always pretty dreadful.
