Citroën
CITROEN SM

2-door 4-seater coupé.

Most obvious marriage of Citroën/Maserati technology; engine was Italian, the 'chassis' pure Citroën. Eccentric styling with cramped accommodation for 16ft length. All usual ds-type hydraulics, pneumatic suspension, self-levelling et al, plus self-centring steering and steered headlamps, all within charismatic shape. Killed off, unfairly, by combination of energy crisis, Citroën takeover by Peugeot, and transfer for build to Ligier. Top speed at least 135mph. Fuel injection from 1972, some automatics from 1973. Factory built only left-hand drive cars.
