FORD MEXICO/RS2000 (MKI)
2-door 4-seater saloon.
In different ways these were de-tuned versions of the RS1600, all built by AVO at South Ockendon. Mexico was merely RS1600 fitted with Cortina GT pushrod (86bhp) engine - 100mph maximum, cheeky character and amazingly good price. RS2000 was smoother, plusher, better road car, fitted with 2-litre overhead-cam 'Pinto' engine and German transmission. With 100bhp it had near-110mph maximum - a great road car, still loved today.
