FORD CONSUL/GRANADA MKI

4-door 5-seater saloon/estate.

Successor to the 'Mk IV' Zephyr/Zodiac cars and to large 17M/20M Taunus models in Germany - a much better car in all respects. As with Cortina MkIII it had USA-inspired style, but sound all-independent suspension chassis and better proportions. Consul were smaller engined types until end of '75, when name dropped and all future models badged 'Granada'. Base engine was V4 at first, but for 1975 in-line overhead-cam Pinto unit took over. 105-110mph for 3-litre Consul GT and Granadas, best of which had 'Ghia' trim pack. Estate cars were amazingly roomy.
