OPEL ASCONA (1970-75)

2-door/4-door saloon/estate car.

Cortina/Taunus sized car, introduced to fill large gaps between Kadett and Rekord and directly displacing Olympia model. Basic 'chassis' as Manta, which shared same underpan and wheelbase, and full range of engines, power outputs and trim packs. 1.2-litre Kadett engined car of 60bhp not sold in UK - most Asconas having 1.9-litres and 90bhp. The Opel success story of the early seventies, replaced by a new and larger model for 1976.
