PEUGEOT 204

4-door 4-seater saloon/estate car.

First front-wheel drive car from Sochaux, with the transverse engine layout made fashionable by Issigonis. Like many other Peugeots, looked dull, but had an advanced mechanical specification, including an overhead-cam alloy engine and all-independent coil spring suspension, plus rack and pinion steering and disc rakes. 85mph flat out with petrol engine. No diesels until 1975. Not exciting to look at or drive, but Peugeot's accountants loved it!
