PEUGEOT 404

4-door 5-seater saloon/estate car.

A surprising car by Peugeot standards, using dull-as-ditchwater 403 engineering at first, under crisp Pininfarina style (similar to BMC B-Series cars, but less flabby), all with great refinement but very average performance. Even so, fuel injection option from early seventies, and front discs from 1969. NO fuel injection in seventies (reserved for later 504 model), but automatic transmission available Peugeot's was a very successful diesel (after Mercedes-Benz, a best-seller), and estate was amazingly capacious. Overshadowed in seventies by 504 range.
