PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA

2-door 6-seater coupé/hardtop/convertible.

Second-generation Barracuda from Chrysler Corp, this being a close relative of the then-new Dodge Challenger, using the same unit-construction shell. Conventional Detroit engineering, most with big-capacity V8 engines and - at first - 7-litre 425bhp unit shared with Road Runner model. All big V8s up to 300bhp, and top speeds to 125mph, with disc brakes by this time. Competing head-on with Mustangs and Camaros didn't help, demand slumped after first two years, and by '72 the powerful engines had gone.
