TRIUMPH SPITFIRE Mk3

2-door 2-seater open sports car.

Third generation Spitfire was still visually close to original 1962 variety, though with 'bone-in-teeth' front bumper, smarter trim, and 75bhp 1.3-litre engine giving 95mph top speed. Still equipped with swing-axle rear suspension, which made on-the-limit handling exciting, but optional extras like wire wheels, overdrive and hardtop were all popular. By comparison with the Spridgets, Spitfires were prettier, roomier and fast selling in the UK. The whole front section hinged up for service, giving excellent maintenance access. 'Classic' status is on the up.
