TRIUMPH SPITFIRE MkIV

2-door 2-seater open sports car.

For 1971, the Spitfire was completely reskinned with a smoother nose and a more integrated chopped-off tail, and a new - still optional - hardtop. Chassis changes included a slightly de-tuned engine (disappointingly), and swing-sprung rear suspension which transformed roadholding. Inside the car, a new facia style put main instruments ahead of the driver. For the USA, exhaust emissions hit hard, so the enlarged engine (only for the USA) was used in 1973 and 1974. Still a good seller, having seen off the Sprite but not the Midget.
