The first of the big square-rigged 'safety-first' Volvos, eventually taking over from the Amazon family. Similar running gear and suspension to Amazon, but with disc brakes all round. Distinctive six-window style lives on into mid-eighties, for 240 family evolved from this car. In the UK, 75bhp from 1.8-litres, and 82bhp with 2-litres (from 1969 model year), meant top speeds in 90mph area, with stately road behaviour. Replaced by the 240 series for 1975.
