VOLVO 1800ES

2-door 2+2-seater sporting estate.

A final sporting flourish from Gothenburg, with a square-back sporting-estate shape grafted on to the decade-old sporting 1800 body. Under the skin, the running gear was as for the 1800E, complete with lumpy but torquey four-cylinder engine. Hatch was all glass, and +2 seating was better trimmed and a bit more practical. A few had automatic transmission from 1972. At £2623, when introduced, the Volvo was nearly twice as costly as the 2-litre Capri.
