Lea-Francis

Lea-Francis
LEA-FRANCIS 12 HP/13 HP

6-light saloon, 40light saloon, drophead coupé, tourer, various specials.

First product from the reformed company (the original firm had gone broke in 1936), this one features an engine from Hugh Rose's pen similar to his design for Riley (the 12/4), with high set cams operating valves in a hemi-head via short pushrods. The significant difference between the Riley and Lea-Francis engines was that the Lea-Francis camshafts were placed just below the cylinder block top face, with the tappets in the cylinder head. The 111ins wheelbase chassis features many proprietary parts, including an Alford and Alder front axle, ENV rear axle and Girling brakes. Central change for the four speed 'box, Luvax chassis lubrication and a choice of back axle ratios (5:1 or 5.25:1) standard. A bit like small SS Jaguars in appearance.
