MERCEDES-BENZ 320
Saloon, streamline saloon, Pullman-limousine, tourer, cabriolet B, cabriolet D, cabriolet F, sports roadster.
Like the majority of late thirties Mercs, there are a number of chassis variations, with two wheelbases before 1938, only one for '38 and '39. Larger engine catalogued in that year too. Around 80mph possible in top ('box was four speed with ZF overdrive) and the factory claimed 16mpg. Hydraulic brakes were fitted, and they were needed, as saloon now weighted in at a portly 39cwt. Not particularly exciting, and the late Michael Sedgwick called the sidevalve six 'stolid and lethargic'. Saloons could be bought with sun-roof, and all cars could be fitted with radios.
