Rolls-Royce
ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM III

Touring limousing, Pullman limousine, various specials.

Ringing in the changes, Crewe style, the PIII had GM knee action ifs, and a wet linered V12 engine complete with hydraulic tappets. Beautifully made (again...), the frame had central cruciform bracing, non-unit construction of engine and 'box, and a 142ins wheelbase. Right hand change still evident, from '38 there were solid tappets, overdrive and a four port head, and 51cwt of motor car was good for 85mph, according to The Motor. Not as elegant as the PII thanks to a forward mounted rad and longer bonnet, and it got a poor reputation thanks to its very complexity.
