STEYR 50/55

Saloon with sliding roof.

It may have looked like a reject from the ugly bug's ball, but it was far in advance of anything the British industry could dream up. As well as all round independent suspension, there was unitary construction of body and frame, the horizontally opposed engine was mounted directly to the radiator to save space, yet it cost all of £235. Mind you, with a very wide ratio four speed 'box and not many horses, 60mph was hard work.
