It's official: the mega-turnout of E-types for the 50th anniversary track parade has made it into the record books after Guinness World Records this week confirmed that the parade of 767 E-types is officially the highest ever number of Jaguar cars to take part in a parade.
Although more than 800 (out of the 1000-plus estimated to attend the Silverstone Classic) were on track at the 23 July parade around the recently revamped Grand Prix circuit, Guinness' strict verification criteria meant only 767 were counted.
The marque record attempt was the climax of the E-type's Golden Anniversary at the Silverstone Classic although the parade was, ironically, led by a pace car from a rival marque: a Maserati GranTourismo!
The turnout taking to the track featured a quartet of important examples of the model including 9600 HP - the world's oldest surviving E-type and the original Geneva Show car and 77 RW - the Roadster that Jaguar's chief engineering development tester, Norman Dewis, drove overnight on Jaguar boss Sir William Lyons orders to make the car's Geneva show launch back in March 1961.
Also taking part was 848 CRY - the E-type that famously had its bonnet and windscreen re-modelled by the Mafia in the Italian Job.
