The 1966 Batmobile is to be sold by its designer George Barris at Barrett-Jackson’s auction in Scottsdale, USA, from 13-20 January.
The car’s value is unclear, but with replicas going for well over $200,000, we can assume the original will go stratospheric.
Built by the ‘Kustom King’ for the ABC Batman series that ran from 1966-’68, the Batmobile was based on Lincoln’s 1955 Futura concept car and powered by a 429cu in Ford V8 with dual Paxton blowers and a nitrous injector.
The auction house’s description reads: "The Batmobile by George Barris is the most recognised and popular piece of entertainment history, worldwide. This is the first time that the original Batmobile has been up for sale and it includes memorabilia and documentation from George's personal archive."
