A restored 1959 Porsche RSK with a rich-racing heritage is expected to make $2.8-3million when it crosses the block at Gooding's Scottsdale sale on 18-19 January.
Delivered new to Miami-based enthusiast Roy Schechter, the 718 Spyder was immediately put into action at the 4 Hours of Alamar in Cuba where it finished in fourth.
From there, Schechter took an overall win at the Courtland Sports Car Races, beating both Jim Hall’s Maserati 450S and ED Martin’s Ferrari Monza. The car would go on to race at Nassau Speed Week in the Bahamas in the Governor’s Trophy, Porsche Trophy and the Nassau Trophy.
A Ferrari 250GT LWB California Spider that has already dazzled Pebble Beach is expected to make much more though.
Valued at $5.5-7million, the matching-numbers, Scaglietti-built 1958 machine is number 13 of just 50 built and features rare faired-in headlights. Delivered new to a US Ferrari representative, the California has had just three owners over the past four decades and was subject to a complete restoration in 2012.
From the same year of manufacture is another Ferrari, this time a 250GT Coupé Special that was formerly part of the Greg Garrison collection. Expected to make $1.7-2.1million, the Pinin Farina-styled machine features unique design cues that include a wraparound rear window.
