In a year dominated by big anniversaries – for firms such as Aston Martin and McLaren, plus cars including the Ford GT40 and Chevrolet Corvette – few are bigger than the Porsche 911’s 50th.
A wide variety of events are planned to celebrate, kicking off with the Retro Classics show in Stuttgart from 7-10 March.
It will feature four exhibits in the form of a pre-series Type 754 T7, an early Turbo Coupé, a 1981 Cabriolet study and a 1997 road-going GT1.
Porsche will also dispatch a classic 1967 machine on a ‘world tour’ taking in five continents visiting automotive highlights such as Pebble Beach and Goodwood en route.
The Porsche Museum will hold its own exhibition charting the history and development of the rear-engined marvel from 4 June-29 September.
Meanwhile, the car’s 50th will be documented by the imaginatively entitled anniversary book 911x911.
