A 1955 Austin-Healey 100S that was campaigned by David Shale and Mike Kellett – "EVV 106" – will star at Bonhams' Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on 27 June. It is estimated to fetch £700,000.
The car was bought new by Shale and is one of only 55 examples built, and an even smaller number that were destined for the domestic market. It was campaigned extensively in its early years, with the gentleman driver entering the car into no fewer than 60 race meets throughout the early 1950s.
The 100S carried him to victory seven times and to 24 podium finishes during that period. In the car's inaugural season, Shale finished second in the 1956 Autosport Championship, winning at both Aintree and Silverstone.
A year later the car was sold to Mike Kellett, who continued to race the 100S for a further two years, taking part in 18 events.
The 1955 model eventually passed into the hands of renowned Healey collector Arthur Carter, who kept the car from 1962 to 2004 before selling it to the current vendor.
In addition to its period racing history, the ex-Shale 100S has also taken part in the Mille Miglia and raced at the Goodwood Revival.
