The annual veteran car event, taking place on the first Sunday in November, has officially opened for business. More than 500 veteran cars are expected to take part, with all cars built before 1905 invited to enter.

The rally is set to follow a new route from Buckingham Palace down the Mall and through St James' Park, a path more commonly trodden by the Royal Family during televised coach parades, before heading towards Brighton. In total, the cars will cover a distance of 60 miles.
The original 'capital-to-coast' Emancipation Run took place in 1896 to celebrate the passing of the Locomotives on the Highway Act, which increased the speed limit from 4mph to 14mph and scrapped the requirement for a red flag carrying man to walk in front of cars.
Hopes are high that this year's rally will run smoother than in previous years thanks to bus lanes being made available for use by the veteran cars from Coulsdon and south of the A27 entering Brighton.
Organisers anticipate up to 500,000 spectators along the route, with the start and finishing posts at Hyde park and Madeira Drive proving especially popular.
