The automotive community was buzzing with excited debate last week after pictures of the Mark 2 by Callum, which was built by Classic Motor Cars, were revealed. Now, the creators of the neo-classic have announced that even more cars will be built.
Peter Neumark, chairman of CMC, said: "The car was only unveiled to the public just over a week ago but it has attracted interest from all over the world.
"I said that we would love to build more, but I didn't think the response would be so great. Within hours we had received calls from people all over the globe asking if they could buy one. We asked Ian Callum if we could produce a limited run, and he said 'yes'."
The project was the dream of Jaguar Cars design director Ian Callum, who aimed to revitalise and modernise the Jaguar MkII. Callum told C&SC: "I wasn't sure how it would be received, but I have been both astounded and delighted with the response. I am please than a few more cars are going to be built."
The cost of one of these creations? "Between £350,000 and £375,000, and buyers will have the opportunity to choose the body and interior colours that they prefer."
The reinvented MkII retains the original Jaguar XK power plant, which now produces 260bhp and 280lb ft thanks to a number of performance enhancements. The steering is electronically assisted, while uprated coil springs and adjustable dampers help to put the power to the road.
