One of the UK's largest single-day classic car auctions took place recently, with more than 250 cars crossing the block at Anglia Car Auctions' 31 January sale.
A 1991 Ferrari Testarossa fetched the highest sum of the day, selling for £63,000, closely followed by a 308GTSi at £53,550 – but it was the smallest classics that created the biggest stir.
Two Scootacars sold for £28,350 and £22,050, respectively, while a 1955 Bond MkC Tourer in need of completion was bought for £4620.
Also doing well was a 1979 Ford Capri 3.0 S, which was bought for £20,370. The 32,000-mile car had little history, but did include 12 months' MoT.
From the same collection, a 1974 Triumph Stag boasted similarly low mileage and was the subject of competitive bidding before the hammer came down at £16,275. Both the Capri and the Stag were sold with no reserve.
Other models from Triumph's stable also sold well, including a supercharged 1972 TR6 (£13,650), a '74 2500 saloon (£2205) and an attractive '62 Herald Estate (£3780).
An impressive array of older classics was also on offer, including a 1938 Rover 10. The handsome £7560 saloon sold at just under its pre-sale estimate and spent some time in Luxembourg before being brought back to the UK.
A 1909 Renault AZ was one of the oldest vehicles in the sale. The Renault had, among other adventures, once transported the Swaffham Carnival Queen. It sold for £14,595, slightly less than its £20,000 pre-sale upper estimate.
A 1963 Plymouth Valiant looked a lot of car for £2625. The 2.8-litre example was first registered in the UK in '73 and had been with its previous owner for eight years. Among the sale documents was a trophy won in 2007.
A stunning 1946 Morris Z van boasted a comprehensive history file detailing its interesting life, including being purchased in 2011 after having been off the road for 13 years. New tyres, battery and stainless-steel exhaust, plus a full engine rebuild added to buyers' confidence. It sold for £7560.
Several MGBs crossed the block, with the tidiest V8 example selling for £17,010. The vendor had owned the car since it was three years' old and was in highly original condition.
