Brooklands to host MGA celebration

| 7 Apr 2015

The 60th anniversary of the MGA will be the headline attraction at the Brooklands Museum’s annual MG Era day, which takes place on 12 April.

Britain’s one-time most popular sports car was introduced in 1955 and quickly became a sales success, with more than 100,000 examples being built before production ended in 1962 – dozens of which are expected to take part in the event.

As well as a strong showing of MGAs, a variety of the firm’s other offerings will also be on display, some dating from as early as 1923. The MG Car Club Vintage Register, Chichester MG Car Club and Lincoln MG Owners’ Club have all booked space on site, while the MGF Register will be celebrating the mid-engined sports cars 20th birthday.

Also set to cause a stir is a recreation go the MG R-Type Midget single-seater, which Geoff Enoch has painstakingly built from scratch. It will be the first time the car has ever been put on public display, and is a faithful representation of the first British racing car with independent suspension.

A cavalcade of MG cars is due to take to the circuit at Mercedes-Benz World at 1:15pm, while the famous Test Hill will be open at 2:30pm.

Gates open at 10am and cost £11 for adults, which includes entry to the museum.
