Jensen enthusiasts are to be offered a rare opportunity to get up close to a unique Jensen prototype at the Letchworth Garden Classic & Vintage Car Club Transport Picnic on 6 June.
The car is one of two P66 models designed by Eric Neale and built in the mid-‘60s. Two versions were created, a hardtop and a soft-top, with the latter going on display at the 1966 Motor Show as the intended replacement for the CV8.
Due to political infighting within the business, Alan Jensen reputedly ordered the destruction of both prototypes, and the show car was dismantled. However, its coupé sister car – now owned by Derek Chapman – survived, and has now been fully restored.
“We are used to seeing wonderful and desirable cars the picnic, but it is really exciting to have the P66 coming,” said show organiser David Davis. “Such a superb and rare vehicle is bound to be of enormous interest to the many enthusiasts attending the event.”
In addition to the P66, Fairclough Hall Farm will host several other vehicle displays, plus a real ale bar, trade stalls, live music and children’s entertainments. A car of the show award will also be up for grabs.
