A very original 1936 Frazer Nash TT Rep has topped the sales tables at Brightwells’ 13 May auction, fetching a whopping £235,600. The car had a well documented competition record and a comprehensive history, and was the subject of frenzied bidding from across the world before finally being won by a Swedish buyer for the biggest sum of the day.
A brace of Bentleys also drew a great deal of attention. The first, a 1934 3.5 Litre Park Ward Saloon that had been extensively resorted in the late ‘90s fetched £50,600. A Royal Blue Metallic Turbo R also performed well, achieving £26,950 thanks, in part, to having just 11,500 miles on the clock. The long-wheelbase model sported a drinks cabinet and fridge.
Equally intriguing, though for much different reasons, was a 1928 Rolls-Royce 20hp Park Ward Weymann Landaulette, which fetched £27,500. The car was in ‘oily rag’ condition having been discovered after languishing in storage in Arizona for more than 30 years.
By contrast, a 1930 Vauxhall T80 Grafton Golfer’s Coupé that had been restored sold for £23,650.
More unusual was a 1951 Tatraplan T600. It fetched £13,200, despite needing light restoration.
