An all-British crew has taken the top going on the Modena Cento Ore – a 1200-mile tour of Italy which includes regularity sections and races at the region’s most challenging circuits – for the second year in succession.
Phillip Walker and Howard Redhouse drove their 1962 Jaguar E-type to victory ahead of stiff competition from 160 other competitors, with 16 manufacturers and 18 countries represented.
The post-1965 category was won by a 1973 Porsche 911 RSR, while a ’59 MGA Twin Cam took the laurels in the regularity sections.
A '54 Porsche 356 Pre-A Speedster also picked up an award.
Among the entrants was 1974 Football World Champion Rainer Bonhof, who paired Albert Otten in a 1939 BMW 328.
The total value of the field was well in excess of €100m, but that didn’t stop owners from putting their classics through their paces on 13 special closed-road stages, four circuit races and 22 time checks throughout the six-day tour.
Organisers were celebrating the 15th anniversary of the event, which this year began in Rome and finished in Modena, taking in a winding route through Lazio, Umbria, Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, in addition to the Imola, Mugello, Vallelunga and Magione circuits.
