More than half a million spectators are expected to line the revised route of the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on 1 November.
The free to view event is one of the Capital’s most engaging and evocative live displays of veteran cars in the country, and this year’s event is set to be even better for those watching from the sidelines. More than 400 historic vehicles will set off from Hyde Park Corner at 6:54am on Sunday morning, before heading through Wellington Arch and down Constitution Hill, past Buckingham Palace and down the Mall.
The route then takes participants towards the Houses of Parliament and across Westminster Bridge, then striking out for the Imperial War Museum once south of the river. From their, the convoy will join the A23 towards Croydon, Purley, Redhill and Crawley, and finally Brighton.
The A23 Brighton Road crossroads with Hooley Lane offers a superb vantage point for the public as the veteran cars test their stamina on the relentless incline: the first cars are expected to pass this point at around 7:50am.
A pit stop in Crawley offers a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with cars thanks to the reinstated control checkpoint, while also giving drivers and navigators the chance of a hot drink. Aim to get there for 8:15am to see the first cars roll through.
Several pubs lining the route through the village of Cuckfield make a good base of operations should the weather take a turn for the worse. Most of the field will pass this area between 8:55am and 3pm.
