Classic & Sports Car contributor Alain de Cadenet plays a leading role in a a brand-new film documenting one of the most exciting races in history: the Targa Florio. A Sicilian Dream makes its UK premiere at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square on 19 October, with Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason expected to join the star-studded event.
Written and directed by Philip Walsh, the film documents the rise and fall of the Florio Dynasty and the race itself, exploring the incredible history of the longest-running road race in the world, from its beginnings in 1906 through to 1977.
The race holds significance for Alain de Cadenet, who crashed his Lolo prototype at the circuit in 1970. Lying unconscious, he was pulled from the burning wreckage by a passing farmer.
De Cadenet is joined by the respected architect and historian Francesco da Mosto, who himself has Sicilian roots. Together, the pair drive the famous circuit and uncover the fascinating history of the event by talking with local characters and storytellers.
A Sicilian Dream is in cinemas 23 October and on DVD 9 November.
