Memorial service planned for historic rally pioneer

The Endurance Rally Association will host a memorial service for its founder Philip Young to mark the first anniversary of his passing, following a motorcycle accident in Burma. The event will take place at the Brooklands Motor Museum on 9 March.

Philip Young was a tireless campaigner for the historic rally movement, founding the Historic Rally Car Register and reviving the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge, as well as setting a record for driving from Cape Town to London in 10 and a half days. His final achievement was gaining permission for 70 really crews to be the first to cross the land border between Thailand and Burma.

Rally director Fred Gallagher said: “We are planning for this to be a true celebration of an amazing man, a happy occasion with words, video footage and pictures to lighten the mood and make sure that we all remember Philip as the incredible life force and innovator that he was.”

The celebration is open to all of Philip’s friends and colleagues, but spaces are limited: anyone wishing to attend should email nikki@endurorally.com.
