A 1966 Shelby GT350 that spent so long locked away it wasn’t even known to the marque register is poised to be one of the stars of Bonhams’ upcoming Greenwich Concours auction on 5 June.
The car clocked up more than 55,000 miles following its early life as a demonstrator and competition car for a Ford dealership in Massachusetts before eventually being put into storage in 1976, where it remained for 40 years.
It’s had just one owner during its life, and is even more intriguing due to its "carry over" status: just 252 cars combined the styling improvements of 1966 with the performance underpinnings of the 1965 model. Its eligibility for pre-65 events will no doubt boost its appeal.
It is expected to sell for between $90,000 and $120,000 leaving plenty of scope for a full restoration. The car comes complete with a set of five Cragar Shelby mag wheels in addition to its original bill of sale and a raft of receipts and documentation.
