Former Le Mans winner Hans-Joachim Stuck will drive an Auto Union at the ever-expanding Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia meeting on 16-17 July. The German ace will be honouring the 80th anniversary of his father’s appearance at the same venue – then part of the European Hillclimb Championship – in a V16 C-type.
In 1986, Hannu Mikkola drove a Group B quattro at Shelsley to mark 50 years since Stuck Snr’s visit. Despite having never seen the hill before, he stunned observers with a climb of 29.51 secs, setting a Closed Car record that stood for many years. Mikkola’s car, now owned by Steve Perez, will also return to Shelsley in July.
It will be joined by an ex-Stig Blomqvist RS200 and the very first Lancia Delta S4 in a special class celebrating Group B.
There will be a full programme of competition over the two days, including rounds of the MG Car Club speed championship and a strong entry of 500cc single-seaters, while the courtyard area will host live music and interviews with star names.
