A fascinating Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ Zagato has wowed visitors to this years Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este (20-22 May) on its way to scooping the second FIVA Preservation Award of the year.
The spectacular ‘half-and-half’ Alfa belongs to prolific collector Corrado Lopresto and features one side in as-found condition – complete with years of dust and muck preserved with a thin layer of lacquer – while the other has just been gently cleaned. The Coda Tronca prototype, which was jointly developed by Elio Zagato and Ercole Spada, offers a fascinating glimpse of the car’s history frozen in time.
The award was presented at the Italian concours by Dr Khalil Karam, Lebanese ambassador to UNESCO, who told onlookers “we are very much inspired by what is being done by FIVA as a protector of world heritage”.
Lopresto’s Zagato is the second car to be recognised by FIVA in 2016, following Dan Davis’ Amelia Island Concours-winning 1930 Cord L-29. It is hoped that all of the recipients of the award will be put on display at UNESCO’s international headquarters in Paris at the end of the year.
