A host of famous drivers has been gathered to share first-hand experiences of piloting the legendary Ford GT40 as part of this year’s Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum, which takes place from 18-20 August.
Among those scheduled to take part in the first talk are Chris Amon, who won eight Grands Prix and led the Ford GT40s across the finish line in the famous 1-2-3 win at Le Mans in 1966 and Formula One and GT40 drivers Jacky Ickx and Brian Redman. They will be joined by Dan Gurney, and IMSA ace David Hobbs.
The second day of the forum will be kicked off by renowned collector and television personality Jay Leno, who will be joined by Donald Osborne. Indy 500 winners Bobby Rahal and Danny Sullivan will then discuss the evolution of racing at Indianapolis.
The final day of the forum will begin by focussing on Life in the Pits, and will include memories and stories from racing legend Sir Stirling Moss, Formula One and sports car racer Jochen Mass, and Nick Mason, founding member of Pink Floyd and Le Mans 24 Hours participant. The session will be moderated by Classic & Sports Car’s Alain de Cadenet.
A brief excerpt from the film ‘A Moment in Time’ recounting the life and times of Jaguar test driver Norman Dewis is set to be played at 12:15pm before the penultimate panel discussion at 1pm, which involves advice for first-time vintage car buyers and collectors. Experts include Alex Finigan from restoration company Paul Russel & Co and former Aston Martin general manager Steve Serio.
