A 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II is expected to sell for mega money at Silverstone Auctions’ Salon Privé sale on 2-3 September. The rare saloon has been tipped to achieve as much as £220,000.
Just 502 examples were ever built and only four of those were officially sold new in the UK – including number 452. But that’s only half the story. Incredibly, the super saloon has just 885 miles on the clock thanks to being bought by a collector who had the car stored with the supplying dealer – Lancaster Mercedes-Benz – for approximately 10 years.
During its time in storage the Evo II barely turned a wheel, evidenced by its striking originality, even down to having the original dealer sticker in the rear window. The bodywork is described being a joy to behold with excellent panel fit, while the interior shows very few signs of wear and tear.
The engine bay, too, seems to be remarkably well-preserved and, according to the auction house, is totally original and correct.
