Le Mans legend Derek Bell yesterday flagged away 70 Jaguar E-types as they set off on a world’s first journey to raise money for charity.
The Round Britain Coastal Drive is the brainchild of author and Jaguar guru Phil Porter, who devised the 18-day run to raise money to help battle prostate cancer.
Originally planning to drive the route solo in the famous ex-Italian Job E-type 848 CRY with perhaps a few other E-types joining him for odd days, Porter was immediately swamped by people wanting to get involved, many wanting to join him on the entire trip.
Henry Pearman’s Eagle E-types was out in force at the Goodwood start as the cars made their way towards the first overnight stop in Lyme Regis. Other high-profile people and cars taking part include the fabulous Lindner-Nocker Low Drag Lightweight, racing driver Mike Wilds and more.
