An incredible collection of Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500s is set to go on display at this year’s Performance Car Show (12-13 January) in celebration of the model’s 30th anniversary.
A mouthwatering selection of significant racers has already been confirmed, headed by the stunning RS500 that raced in the 1988 British Touring Car Championship. Andy Rouse stormed to victory in nine out of 12 races, securing 10 pole positions in the process. The car gained its bold Mobil livery the following season, when it was raced at Sandown and Bathurst.
Chassis DJR1 is also set to draw more than its share of admiring glances thanks to its striking Shell Ultra Hi livery and intimidating race record. The Andy Lloyd-owned car was campaigned in the Australian Touring Car Championship and Bathurst 1000 enduros in the 1987 and 1988 seasons with Dick Johnson.
Also slated to go on show is the first ever RS500 to compete in DTM. The Paul Linfoot-owned example finished second in its first season thanks to the expert driving of Manuel Reuter, and went on to be driven by Volker Weidler and later Pierre Dieudonné, when it acquired its iconic black and red Texaco livery.
Another RS500 with an Andy Rouse connection rounds off the group. The 1988 BTCC RS500 was driven by Laurence Bristow under the Rouse CAM Shipping banner and contested all rounds of the Japanese Touring Car Championship in 1990.
To this day, the RS500 holds the record for the most consecutive wins in the BTCC – 40 in a row.
