A 1938 Chevrolet ‘Fangio’ Coupe has come out on top against stiff opposition during the Endurance Rally Association’s Rally of the Incas, a 27-day classic adventure through South America.
The Vintageant trophy was lifted by Chuck and Pam Lyford, who travelled from the US to take part in the event, which began in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 13 November and finished in Lima, Peru on 9 December. The winning duo also won the ERA’s Vintage Cape Horn Rally in 2013.
Second placed Paul Carter and Vincent Fairclough weren’t far behind in their 1936 Derby Bentley, and were closely followed by the 1925 Bentley Super Sports of Graham and Marina Goodwin.
The Classics class was won by Belgium’s Joost Van Cauwenberg and Christine De Landtsheer in a 1973 Porsche 911. Their long wait for silverware included a difficult London-Cape Town in 2012 and a disappointing run during the Road to Mandalay Rally.
Richard Martin and Travis Cole took second in their 1972 Datsun 240Z, while Marco Halter and Claudia Engelhardt took third in their 1963 Ford Falcon.
The True Grit trophy was awarded to Ed and Janet Howle, who nursed their 1967 Volkswagen Beetle along for almost a month.
