An incredible timewarp 1989 Mercedes-Benz 500SL thought to be one of the finest in the world is being offered for sale at Hexagon Classics for the princely sum of £94,995.
While the pricetag is enough to bring a tear to the eye, the car’s remarkable condition is unlikely to be replicated thanks to it having covered just 956 miles since it left the factory – an average of just 34 miles per year throughout its 28-year life.
The 1989 car represents the last of the breed, the R107 being replaced by the R129 series later in that year. Delivered new to the UK and finished in black paintwork with contrasting cream leather interior, the 500SL was fitted with a number of desirable options including ‘Tempromat’ cruise control, air conditioning, green-tined sun-deflecting glass, heated seats and a factory hard top.
In addition to its impressive specification, the Mercedes also has a claim to fame, having starred in a number of television programmes including Dallas.
“This is an unmissable opportunity for someone to purchase a true collector’s item,” said Hexagon Classics’ Paul Michaels. “It is always difficult to find Mercedes’ of this era with low mileage – like Porsches they were built to be used after all – but to find an R107 500SL with less than 1000 miles on the clock is unbelievable. This example is perfect in evert way and it looks like it has just driven out of a showroom in 1989.”
