The Rover Sports Register descended upon The Whitewebbs Transport Museum in Enfield on 26 February, taking with it an fantastic selection of Solihull’s motoring heritage.
By far the most numerous model on show was the P6, but the offering spanned everything from Jim Palling’s 1934 12 Sports to a late SD1 Vanden Plas and a 600 Series saloon.
Club registrar John Halford turned out in his remarkably original 1938 16, which has covered less than 50,000 miles. Its owner between 1948 and 1982 kept incredibly detailed records, meticulously detailing every pint of oil and gallon of petrol the car used.
Equally fine and also in unrestored condition was Mick Corley’s beautiful 1973 P6 2000, which displayed just 60,000 miles on the clock – all documented in the comprehensive history file.
David McConnachie deserves a hearty slap on the back for his efforts in reviving his 1938 13 Six Light Saloon. He’s owned the car for 34 years, but it was in a terrible state when he first bought it. The current condition of the vehicle is testament to three years’ of hard graft to get it back on the road, and a further 21 to fully complete the restoration.
