Jaguar Classic has launched a new programme to comprehensively rebuild E-types, giving customers the opportunity to buy a fully restored car without having to get their hands dirty.
The first car to be built under the E-type Reborn programme is set to be unveiled at this year’s Techno Classica Essen, and marks the first in an initial batch of 10 restored cars.
The 1965 Series I 4.2-litre fixed-head coupé started life as a 78,000-mile California car sourced by the firm’s engineers before being fully rebuilt to its original factory specifications. It is finished in Opalescent Gunmetal Grey and retains its original matching numbers bodyshell, engine and gearbox, all of which have been meticulously restored.
As much of the original vehicle as possible has been retained or refurbished to correct specifications, while any safety-critical parts have been replaced with new items from Jaguar Classic Parts. Body panels from Jaguar Classic’s reverse-engineered panel programme were fitted where necessary, to remove corrosion and restore the E-type’s looks with the best fit possible. The project has been aided by unique access to build records and original drawings held by the Jaguar Heritage Trust.
Each new E-type is priced from £285,000, while the programme echoes those catering for restored Series I Land-Rovers and Range Rover Classics.
