Massive Lotus Seven parade planned for Silverstone Classic

| 9 May 2017

The Lotus Seven’s 60th anniversary is set to be marked at this year’s Silverstone Classic (28-30 July) by a mammoth on-track parade of more than 100 Sevens and Caterham Sevens from the Lotus Seven Club.

“It promises to be quite a spectacle,” said the Club’s Graham Howard. “We will have more than a hundred examples from early Lotuses to more recent Caterhams and will welcome anyone who shares our passion. As no two Sevens are ever the same, there’s plenty to talk about!”

The first Lotus Seven was delivered to its new owner in September 1957, and the model remained in production until 1973 when the design rights were then sold to Caterham, which has ensured production has remained continuous ever since.

In addition to the Lotus Seven Club, a number of other groups will be celebrating milestones. Notable anniversaries include 60 years of both the Fiat 500 Topolino and Gaz 21, while the Ferrari Owners’ Club will mark its half century and the Ford Sierra RS500 turns 30.

More than 120 car clubs are expected to turn out at the Silverstone Classic, drawing some 10,000 privately owned classic cars to the circuit’s infield throughout the three-day festival.
