The Ferrari Museum of Maranello has been expanded by more than 600 square metres with the addition of a brand-new glass-fronted wing, following a record-setting number of visitors in 2016.
Ferrari President Sergio Marchionne, Vice President Piero Ferrari and Director of the London Design Museum Deyan Sudjic were all on hand to open the expanded show space, which houses two new exhibitions for 2017 – ‘Under the Skin’ and ‘Infinite Red’.
The ‘Under the Skin’ exhibition was created in partnership with the London Design Museum, and recounts the creative and engineering development of Ferrari via a series of exceptional motor cars beginning with the 125S – the marque’s first car. A hoard of technical drawings, design models and engines reveal the engineering work hidden beneath the cars’ exterior beauty. The exhibition will move to the London Design Museum in November.
‘Infinite Red’ celebrates 70 years of the Prancing Horse with a gathering of some of Maranello’s most exciting and successful road and race cars. They range from Alberto Ascari’s 1952 Championship-winning 500 F2 to the F2004 that concluded Michael Schumacher’s epic run of world titles, plus the F2008 which won the World Constructors’ Championship.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a host of GT cars, including a 250GT Berlinetta Tour de France, a 250GT Short-wheelbase, and the jewel in the exhibition’s crown – a 250GTO. The 250 trio will be joined by a number of more modern Ferrari road cars, such as an F50, Enzo, and the latest LaFerrari.
